Roundworms

Roundworms are the most common internal parasite of dogs worldwide.

It is no wonder why – a female can shed up to 100,000 eggs every day! Almost all puppies less than three months old are infected.

Because eggs can survive in soil for years, it is difficult to rid your environment of these pests. In fact, in just one week, two infected puppies can shed over 20 million eggs, enough to contaminate a 2.800 square-foot yard!

Roundworms are spread by:

Ingestion of contaminated soil
A mother to a new animal across the placenta or in consuming contaminated milk while nursing
Eating an infected mammal

Symptoms of a roundworm infection include:

  • Pot-bellied appearance in young puppies
  • Failure to thrive or gain weight
  • Listless, poor hair/coat condition
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Vomiting
